Catholic Funeral Rites

“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”John 11:25–26

The Catholic Funeral

The Catholic funeral rites are a powerful expression of the Church’s care for the dead and the living. The rites honour the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, commend the deceased to God’s merciful love, and offer consolation and hope to those who mourn. The funeral liturgy is above all a celebration of the Paschal Mystery — Christ’s own passage through death to new life.

What Happens

The Catholic funeral typically takes place in three stages: the Vigil (or reception of the body), usually held the evening before; the Funeral Mass, the central liturgical celebration; and the Rite of Committal at the graveside or crematorium. The parish priest and our pastoral team will guide you through each stage with sensitivity and care.

Arranging a Funeral

When a death occurs, please contact the parish office as soon as possible. We work closely with local funeral directors to arrange a time for the funeral. The parish priest will meet with the family to plan the liturgy, choose readings and hymns, and offer pastoral support during this difficult time.

If you wish to discuss funeral arrangements or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help.
