Lenten Message from Fr Jais: Listening and Fasting

22 Feb 2026 church 2 min read

Lent is a grace-filled time when the Church invites us to place God once more at the centre of our lives. In the midst of daily worries and distractions, we are called to renewal through conversion of heart.

Listening

Conversion begins with listening — making room for the Word of God to speak to us. When we truly listen, we allow the Lord to transform our hearts and open our eyes to the cry of those who suffer. Lent encourages us to grow attentive not only to Scripture, but also to our brothers and sisters in need.

Fasting

Fasting supports this journey. More than abstaining from food, it helps us recognise what truly sustains us. It teaches self-discipline, deepens our hunger for justice, and frees us from complacency. We are also invited to fast from harsh words, gossip, and judgment, choosing instead language that builds up and brings peace.

Lent is not only a personal journey but a communal one. As families and parish communities, may we walk together in prayer, listening, and acts of charity. Let this holy season lead us to deeper faith, stronger relationships, and renewed commitment to love.

May the Lord bless you and your Lenten journey.
